About AMCANN
AMCANN Research is a scientific institute focused on studying the endocannabinoid system (ECS) through a medical diagnostic lens. Currently, there are no standard lab tests to measure ECS; AMCANN aims to change that.
The AMCANN Mission
The core of the AMCANN mission is to gain further understanding of the endocannabinoid system and how it regulates physiological processes, such as mood, pain, metabolism, and immune function. While other biological systems, such as hormones and neurotransmitters, have standard lab tests to measure levels in a person, there is currently no standard lab test to assess whether someone’s ECS is functioning properly. Through scientific research with a medical and diagnostic lens, AMCANN aims to develop a standardized test for the endocannabinoid system.
Endocannabinoid Testing
As AMCANN works to develop standardized testing for cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system, the process will be as follows: Healthy individuals will first be tested to measure their endocannabinoid levels, and this data will be used to establish what a “normal” ECS should look like. Once the standard “normal” is discovered, individuals looking to better their cannabinoid levels will know where improvements are needed.
Patterning after previous medical studies, AMCANN uses the same high-precision lab technology as other clinical pharmacology studies: LC/MS/MS. The practice of establishing a “normal” and finding abnormalities based on this “normal” is much like the system other medical researchers and doctors use to establish reference ranges for cholesterol or thyroid hormones. For our studies, we measure compounds such as anandamide (AEA), 2-AG, PEA, OEA, and others.
AMCANN is a scientific institute, not a cannabis brand or advocacy group, to understand further the endocannabinoid systems and how improving levels in a person’s ECS can help improve overall health.
The Founder of AMCANN
AMCANN is founded and directed by Dr. David A. Dawson, PhD, a Biomolecular Psychologist and author. His career has been focused on the research of medicinal cannabis, originally aiming to find solutions for himself and further extending into the education and assistance of others. Dr. Dawson aims to challenge the surrounding stigmas and falsehoods associated with medicinal cannabis, fostering a more informed and enlightened discussion on the subject.
